DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Attorney Anthony A. Arzili has an unparalleled record with Domestic Violence matters. He has handled many such cases in Los Angeles Courts and has yet to lose a case.

Domestic Violence matter usually involves a battery involving two people who:

a) Are married;
b) Have children in common; or
b) Are in a relationship and live together.

There is a big distinction between simple assault and battery between two people that don’t know one another and one where they have a relationship.

Crimes that involve people that share children or a relationship are handled entirely differently by the police and the prosecution in court.

Due to heavy lobbying by special interest groups and increased funding, someone accused of Domestic Violence faces many well-funded obstacles.

For example, many police agencies now have a practice where if they respond to a domestic violence call, they must take someone into custody, no matter how slight or questionable the evidence.

In some courts, Domestic Violence matters are entirely separated from all other cases and are given their own prosecutor and own judge to monitor them closely.

Once a charge of Domestic Violence is filed against you, there are strict guidelines by which that case must be resolved. Unlike other cases where defense attorneys and prosecutors can easily negotiate a resolution, in Domestic Violence matters, prosecutors must seek year long counseling, protective orders and in some cases jail time.

Not hiring a top Domestic Violence Attorney can be very costly. Here’s why.

At the first court appearance, the D.A. will request the court to issue a “protective order” which will forbid you to come in 100 feet of your spouse. If you live together, she will get to stay there and you will have to find someone else to live. This protective order may stay in place for months and if uncontested for up to 3 years.

If you do not hire counsel, you will surely be looking at possible County Jail Time and 1 year of Counseling which you will have to pay out of your own pocket.

Not hiring an attorney will mean you will have to be present at every court appearance. The court does not care if you will miss work or lose your job. Court takes priority.

If you do not hire counsel, you will not have a chance to attack the prosecutions case and all its lies and exaggerations. Attorney Anthony Arzili has completed numerous domestic violence trials where the prosecution’s case has been blow out of the water and the client has been able to walk out of court a free man.
